Sunday Walk - at the beach

Firstly, I would like to start by thanking everyone for their kind comments & emails of support following my last post.
We are trying to get back to la vie quotidienne, but it isn't easy.
To lessen the pain a little we decided to take our Sunday walk in a different location than the one that I have shared with you (and Ben) many times before.

So, we drove the short distance to Saint Laurent sur Mer, also known as Omaha beach, to join other dog walkers and some horseback riders there.

We stopped to admire the stunning sculpture "Les Braves" by Anilore Banon which she created to honour the courage of those men who's lives were lost on the 6th June 1944.

Happy New Year from me, the SP & Fleur,
things can only get better from now on.

  1. I love a beach walk in the winter - may just have to go and take one this afternoon. It's raining, so it will require hot chocolate at some point afterwards!
I'm glad to read that life is returning to normal. I'm sure there's a big empty space in every room, but I hope the lovely memories are beginning to fill them.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing these photos, Maggie! I've read and heard a lot about Omaha Beach, but I've never seen it before.

I'm glad you got out for a walk today; walks are good for so much of what ails us. I know you're still missing sweet Ben, and I hope things will get a little easier each day.

    Best wishes,

    Denise

  3. Your walk looked wonderful. I had planned a surprise trip for my husband's birthday in February to vist the DDay Landings. Then I accidently emailed him into some information and the surprise was spoilt. However we are still going to stay in Bayeux for a few days and visit Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery along with Pegasus Bridge. Really looking forward to the visit.
    thanks for sharing your photographs

  4. A lovely place to walk. Nothing here so exotic. No beach. No art. Just cornfields and country roads with a a view of the Rocky Mountains. So I do love to walk along with you.

  8. Here on the west coast of British Columbia I love the beaches in the winter. I love the wind and even the rain.
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your dear dog. It was 2 years ago this week for us and we still miss her terribly. Big hugs.

  10. Hello, I'm visiting from Mosaic Monday. Your photos of Omaha Beach are wonderful. I've never been there of course but I've been to Boulogne sur mer. (I think I spelled it correctly) Do you know where it is? I'm sorry for your loss of your beloved pet. Wishing you wonderful memories. Pamela

  11. Those sculptures really go pull at the heartstrings. Hope you are beginning to adjust to your loss. When my husband lost his cocker, Peanut, he was a basket case for weeks. We all love our pets so much and they are such an important of our lives...especially as we age. My thought are with you. genie

  12. I'm not sure one can visit Normandy Beaches and not be affected, no matter which one you choose. Your photos are lovely and it is a fitting place to walk as you remember Ben.

    Sending many hugs.
