Plum Crazy in August

We've had a better than usual crop of plums this year more than enough to eat straight from the tree, as 1 of our daily 5 and to indulge my love of baking.

Angela Hartnett's Plum & Almond Tart with it's delicious frangipane filling was easy to make.
I found that it made enough pastry and frangipane for two tart's so as I had plenty of plums I made one for afternoon tea and one for the freezer, for us to enjoy later.

Plums and almonds were made for each other and this homely plum crumble was delicious. A perfect pud for a cold wet evening.

The weather this month has been dreadful and the comfort foods of our childhood are what we turn to as the afternoons get shorter and the shadows lengthen.

 It's Fall y'all.

  1. It certainly feels like fall over here at 0630. The mist is hanging in the trees and the air is cool. As I sip my morning coffee I'm wrapped in a warm sweater.
Plums - so far I am winning the war against the raccoons - or perhaps I should say that I am winning the race for the plums! We will likely eat all of ours and share what we don't eat. I won't be doing any preserving this fall, so we'll enjoy them as they come.

  3. I took my husband to the airport early this morning and the mist lying across the fields made me realize that summer is nearly over. Plums were not great on our tree this year. But I have enough to attempt that gorgeous and delicious sounding tart!

  4. Yummy! We are eating plums right now, but they are usually gone before I can make anything with them. So very hot and humid here today. Definitely not Fall weather. Have a great rest of the day. Tammy

  5. The desserts you made look delicious. If I lived closer I would pop in for a taste, ha ha. A lot of miles between us though, me being in California.

  6. Your plum dessert looks delicious. It would certainly be fresh tasting since you can pick and bake with your own fruit!

I'm a little surprised to hear that you have also had bad August weather. Hopefully September will be warm and sunny!

  13. You had me at the mention of plum tart for afternoon tea. :-) Since I have to buy plums, which are rather expensive I've never baked with them.
I know I would like your tart and crumble though, they look delicious!
