Vacations & Getaways Challenge with the Inspired Scrapper

A favourite pastime of mine when I can find the time, is scrapbooking.
I became interested in scrapbooking a couple of years ago and one of my first projects was a Memory Book for my baby sister Kathryn to celebrate her big 40 Birthday.
I created a scrapbook page for every year of her life.
Earlier this week, Virginia, a member of The Inspired Scrapper Design team blogged about Vacation and Getaway scrapbook layouts and asked us to share some of our own LO's.
Some of the pages in Kathryns book featured vacations, including her and husband Andrews 10th wedding anniversary trip to Venice.

Family vacation in Florida.

Skiing in Whistler.

On a visit to us here in France.
"A Mother of Two"
Since then I've also scrapbooked some of our own vacations and getaways.
In 2007 we spent some time enjoying the area around Denia in Spain.

Enjoying tapas in a beautiful square

Life's a beach in Hilton Head.
I've really enjoyed leafing through my vacation scrapbook today, hope you've enjoyed taking a mini vacation with me too!

Holiday snaps.

A chilly morning on Burkes Beach, HHI.
November has truly arrived on the island.
Clocks went back at the weekend and suddenly our early morning walk turned a little chilly.
We came prepared however, with warm fleecy jackets and long pants. Flip flops are stashed at the back of the wardrobe to be replaced by "more sensible" footwear.
This old lady came to greet us as we walked along the beach.

Pickle.
We stopped to pet her for a while and chatted with her pal Redfish Rex. Isn't that a fab name! Click here to go to their web site.

Roger & Redfish Rex.

There's always lots of interesting driftwood and flotsam and jetsam to photograph.

Down at Coligny beach you can while away an hour or two, swinging and watching the world go by.
At South beach harbour we had lunch at the Salty Dog Cafe.

Is this not a Kodak moment?

E is for EXCITED!!!

As you probably already know, tomorrow Mr B & I are leaving on our long anticipated and planned for trip to the US, that is if the striking French workers allow us to travel.

First stop Charlotte, NC, where we will rest briefly after our trip, before driving down to Savannah, Georgia to co-host the 12th Annual meeting of the Quimper Club.

Savannah Square shaded by moss draped oaks.

We have a planned a fabulous 5 day extravaganza of tours, events with guest speakers, a ceramics restoration seminar, Riverboat cruise and delicious dinners in interesting and exciting restaurants.
Mrs Wilkes Dining Room
We're even throwing in a private Plantation Tour "a la Tara"!!
I think even Scarlett O'Hara would be impressed.

After all the madness.................two weeks R&R in our home from home on Hilton Head where days will be spent relaxing, reading and enjoying the wide empty beaches.
Building sand castles
There will also be plenty of  much needed retail therapy going on too.

My trusty pink laptop will be coming along for the trip, so I'll be able to visit your blogs, whenever I get 5 minutes and hopefully will also find time to blog about some of the Savannah activities over on the QCI blog and share some more magical Hilton Head shots here on this blog
Whilst we're off having fun, Mr Ben will not be neglected, not at all. His favourite sitters Leighton & June will be here to pamper him and make sure all is well in the home.
Beach boardwalk HHI
Joining Mrs Matlock once again this week for Alphabe-Thursday, click on the AT button on my sidebar to see all the amazing topics which begin with the letter E.
See you in Savannah!

Halloween in Hilton Head

It's Monday so that means just one thing it's Mosaic Monday over at Mary's Little Red House.
Also, I hope that we'll get some visitors from Sharon's Halloween Bash at Fiberdoodles & Whimsy, what a great idea this is!
Please take the time to visit both of these ladies and join in the fun.
So, we're staying at the beach and there's not too much Halloweeny stuff to show down here but I did find some.

I went to Michaels last week and bought some Fall decorating bits and bobs, I've played around with them and decorated the condo a little bit.

When staying in HHI we love to shop at the Fresh Market and whilst there I always sample the delicious coffee which they set out for their customers to enjoy.

At the moment they have a Decaffeinated Pumpkin Spice coffee "with the rich flavor of pumpkin, cinnamon and allspice".
We usually take our coffee black & strong but this pumpkin spice taste is "nice for a change" to quote Mr B.

A few days ago we visited Savannah to have lunch at the famous "Mrs Wilkes' Boarding House" (but that's another story!).

Mr B photographed these beautiful Fall wreaths decorating the front doors of two homes just across the street from Mrs Wilkes'.

Savannah is reputed to be America's Most Haunted City but there were no ghosts to be seen in the bright sunshine.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back for an evening Ghost Tour, maybe next year when we host the Quimper Club's 11th Annual Meeting there?

Mosaic Monday from Hilton Head Island, SC.

I Saw From the Beach by Thomas Moore.

I saw from the beach, when the morning was shining,
A bark o'er the waters move gloriously on;
I came when the sun o'er that beach was declining,
The bark was still there, but the waters were gone.

And such is the fate of our life's early promise,
So passing the spring-tide of joy we have known;
Each wave that we danced on at morning ebbs from us,
And leaves us, at eve, on the bleak shore alone.

Oh, who would not welcome that moment's returning
When passion first waked a new life through his frame,
And his soul, like the wood that grows precious in burning,
Gave out all its sweets to love's exquisite flame.

It's Mosaic Monday over at Mary's Little Red House.

The weather here in Hilton Head, SC is glorious, so wonderfully warm.

After a so so summer in Normandy we are basking in the sunshine, reflecting and remembering the good times.

Soon after we arrived so did a welcome basket from "management" and a wonderful Autumnal floral arrangement from our friends Tony & Jan in the UK.

Tony was Roger's best man all those years ago (30) when we said our marriage vows and remains a close friend to this day.

Happy Mosaic Monday everyone, be sure to visit Mary @littleredhouse.

Mosaic Monday in South Carolina

O.K. I know that summer is supposed to be over & everyone is getting ready to decorate for Fall but I'm not ready to say goodbye to the beach just yet.
If I had to choose another place in the world where I would like to live, high on my list would be Hilton Head Island, SC.
We bought a Marriott timeshare apartment there about 19 years ago and have been back many, many times for enjoyable vacations, shared with family and friends.
Off season is when we like to be there, the beaches are wide and empty and we enjoy going for long walks along the shore.
We did visit one year in August, never again!
When we were there in March this year I didn't think I'd be back for at least a year but guess what? Lucky me, we're heading back next month for another couple of weeks R&R.

To get me in the mood I've created a Carolina Low Country Mosaic to share with you and Mary at her delightful Mosaic Monday affair @ The Little Red House.
For an upclose look at my Carolina wonderland click on the pix to enlarge.
It's always a delight to see the wonderful mosaics that link up there and every one of them is beautiful and unique, go on over and give yourself a treat.
Be sure to mention my name & you'll get a great seat!
à bien tôt
