photo du jour - Monday Doorway

This is the main entrance to the 12th century church of St. Marcouf.
Our home which is just a couple of hundred yards away was once the residence of the village priest. The Bishop of Bayeux was a regular visitor or so the story goes and used to stay at the Presbytere, which dates back to the 16th century.
On Saturday afternoon these doors were decked out in wedding finery for la marriage of the Maire's daughter.
It was a lovely day, full of celebrations, blue skies and sunshine.

Monday Doorways

I couldn't resist taking this shot of the stunning National Trust Shop
in the beautiful Cathedral City of Wells, Somerset, U.K. when
visiting the Cathedral with the Quimper Club in 2004.

Smugglers at the Lugger, Portloe, Cornwall.

Where do you suppose this padlocked, rusty barred gate leads to?
Smugglers be here!
I spotted this fascinating doorway whilst staying at the Lugger Hotel in Portloe, Cornwall last year.
The 17th Century inn has a dark history.
In 1890 its landlord, Black Dunstan, was sent to the gallows
after his second career in smuggling French brandy was uncovered.

Monday Doorways

Joining Louis La Vache in beautiful San Francisco
with this stunning entrance to an elegant mansion
spotted whilst touring Savannah's Historic District in 2010.
How I would have loved to look inside, but sadly could only capture the beautiful facade.
As Mammy said to Scarlett in Gone With The Wind
Savannah would be better for you. You'll just get in trouble in Atlanta.

Have a great week everyone.
