There's no place like home - Five On Friday

As Mother Goose once said "home again, home again, jiggity jig".
We are home in Normandy again after 10 days of being tourists in the Dordogne, it's sooooo good to be back.
We did enjoy touring Chateaux Duras, Milandes and Bridoire and the markets of Eymet, Issigeac and Duras.
I'm planning on sharing them soon but for this week's Five On Friday, hosted by Amy @ Love Made My Home I've chosen five topics closer to my heart and my home.
Inspired by the many beautiful antique shops and interior decorating boutiques we came across last week I spent a few pleasant hours "shopping the home" and "fluffing my nest" rearranging things on window sills, tabletops and dressers.

#1
a collection of French enamel jugs and a wicker picnic basket
#2
a mix of pictures, china, pottery and a hurricane lamp standing on a vintage book
#3

hydrangeas

#4
I ordered Mediterranean vegetable terrine as a starter at our hotel in Poitiers
and decided to make one myself on Wednesday.
Pretty good, if I do say so myself!

After 10 days of neglect the potager was looking very overgrown so the Senior Partner got to work with the strimmer yesterday, despite it being Bastille Day.

P.S.
At midnight on the eve of Bastille Day we could hear fireworks going off in a nearby village, M'Selle Fleur is not a fan of loud noises and so came to sleep on the bedroom floor, next to my side of the bed, until they were over.
Not sure who was looking after who but I did enjoy her company.

  1. So happy you are home ad jumping into your garden work. Home is home and inside is so comforting right now,

I won't beat around the bush, Maggie. As I write I am watching what has occurred in Nice several hours ago. I've seriously been crying and trying to do a little bit of light blogging. My heart aches. So sorry you had to come home to this sort of carnage. Love, love, love to you and your husband. Be strong.

  2. A lovely homely five. Those vintage jugs are fabulous, I can never get enough jugs! It's scary how much a garden can grow in even a few days away. Have a great weekend. B x

  3. I agree with Jane. I'm so sorry about what is happening in France this year. It makes our politicians' squabbles seem so insignificant. My thoughts are with you all.

  4. I echo the sentiments of those above! Such disheartening times for Framce.
It is with relief that I know you are safe and secure in your lovely home. Made even more so with your collection of lovely treasures so beautifully displayed. Stay safe my friend!

  11. I thought of you, and of course my brother, his family and friends in the L'anguedoc and Provence last night - such a horrific happening yet again - and prayed that all were safe in their homes. Words are hard to find each time these terrible things happen, tears come and hearts break, it's all so terrible.

Stay well and safe - I did enjoy seeing the precious things around your beautiful home Maggie.

  17. You fluff your nest beautifully! Glad you had a good time away and that your Bastille Day was a good one, even if it wasn't for everyone in France so very sadly. Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope you have a good weekend. xx

  18. A lovely five, Maggie. Yes, we're so sad about what happened in Nice, so very sad.
I'm so glad you had a lovely holiday and an appreciative re-entry. I love that about going away for a few days.

  20. Very nice acquisitions and I like your lovely displays. Doesn't take long for gardens to get overgrown. It's always hard to sleep here on the 4th of July with all the fireworks. Our hearts and minds are with the people of France, Nice in particular...

  22. Stop in from Gattina. I notice the coffee pot. I once had a ceramic shop and mold for a granite coffee pot, which was one of my better seller.
If you fine the time stop on over at my blog for a cup of coffee.

  23. Maggie, you know we are all grieving about the tragic event in Nice. I'm glad you two are safe in your home, but the pain of all of this will be with us for days to come. Both Dallas and Nice are in my thoughts and my heart is heavy. Take care, dear one.

  25. Home sweet home ! I just realized that you live in Normandy ! I was in Houlgate last year with a friend and we had the typical nice weather, at least once a day it rained ! Your terrine looks very yummy !

  26. It's wonderful to travel and equally wonderful to return home. I'm getting some ideas now while traveling of ways to switch things up at home. But that's not for another week. The terrine does look delicious. Would you share the recipe?

My heart aches for France, and for all the brokenness in the world.

  28. Those enamel jugs are a delight, so much nicer to have them on display where you can enjoy them.
Love your hydrangeas so colourful, I'm patiently waiting for mine to bloom.

  29. The large enamel jugs have such a graceful feel about them. Here we treat enamel as everyday, so your jugs look to me as if the princess married a commoner.

I'm crying with you. Attacking on Bastille Day just added insult to injury.

  30. My potager is looking much the worse for wear after a month away. I'm not sure my neighbor hit the water everywhere! I especially love the photo of those jugs. Beautiful.

Sending my heart wishes to France -- so many sad things this month. Sad, tragic, wrong.
