Bastille Day - petit dejeuner


Fireworks lit the dark night sky at midnight as our neighbours began to celebrate July 14th, Bastille Day.

Since we Brits are a little more sedate we celebrated the special day with a late breakfast of coffee and croissants and a little bit of Gallic red, white & blue.

as does the 18th c Petit Breton on this HB picher,
always a useful and decorative piece.
The delicious croissants were bought fresh from the boulanger's van as he made his early morning round through our village.

the pretty white blossom on these branches has a wonderful perfume,
sadly I do not know what tree this is as it was already thriving in the garden 17 years ago when we arrived in Normandy

    Your English celebration of Bastille Day is right up my alley...........in fact this morning I'm having a croissant myself!

    Lovely the china as always - and you have sunshine for the celebration, something we're lacking here, it's been raining forever!!

    Happy Bastille Day! The Quimper tabletop is lovely! I wanted to decorate for Bastille Day and write a post, but I've been too busy with the Mad Tea Party! I'm tired! I'll just have to celebrate over here with you, Maggie!

    Croissants...wonderful and such a pretty table!

    Bastille Day is celebrated here as well, all of the boats anchor on Lake Michigan and there is a beautiful fireworks display.

    Maggie, big smiles across the miles as I view this morning post. Every detail of your lovely breakfast setting makes my heart long to be on French soil. Beautiful setting with your blue and white theme. I set a table earlier this week with red, white, and blue featuring our Q fish plate set, but no time to get photos and a post created as I'd planned for Bastille Day. Perhaps I'll post it for later in the week if time allows.

    Hi Maggie,

    It's great to see you posting again -- I've really missed your posts!! This is a beautiful breakfast table -- so wonderfully French.

    My hubby and I watch the Tour de France every summer to enjoy the gorgeous scenery (it may be the closest we ever get to visiting France if the economy doesn't improve). Anyhoo, I told my husband last night that second to our American flag, I think the tricolour is the prettiest national flag I've seen.

    Your Quimper is charming -- the plates and the pitcher, and your blue and white checked cloth is so soft and lovely looking. Thanks for sharing this with us!

    I have never made it to France on Bastille Day. We made it, as far as Bath, England once on the way to France, but we did eat lunch at a French restaurant - lol!! I love your beautiful setting and I am pretty sure that I have never seen Quimper in just blue and white. Stunning!

    Visiting your pretty blog via Pondside - your breakfast table for Bastille Day looks charming.
    I think that your white blossom looks like a double Philadelphus (Mock Orange) which does have a wonderful scent.

    Your photos are lovely and the china is so pretty - what a wonderfully idyllic setting for breakfast! I think your flowers are Mock Orange - if so they should have a beautiful and strong scent - and I notice Rosemary has the same idea - that raises my confidence in my suggestion!!!
