O is for Oliver (Jamie: The Naked Chef)

This week has rushed by, so much to do in the garden!
I had better get my skates on and finish my homework ready for Mrs Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday.The letter in question this week is "O".
I considered: Olive Oyl, Oprah, Orangerie, Opera, Ocean, Ordinary, Opulent, Over the top and Oeufs, en cocotte or souffléd?
That got me thinking about another Obsession of mine fOOd.
In the late 1990's a fabulous young man hit the TV screens in the UK with a completely different way of cooking.
His name: Jamie Oliver and the show was called "The Naked Chef".Who doesn't love Jamie?
He showed us how to cook restaurant style dishes in our own kitchens by stripping them down to basics and then adapting them. By doing this he says " I built up a foolproof repertoire of simple, delicious and feisty recipes".
One of the recipes from the first series has become a very firm NL favourite and I make it probably once a week during the summer months when the potager provides beautiful, succulent green and yellow beans in abundance.
"Tray baked Salmon with Olives, Green Beans, Anchovies and Tomatoes". Click on the link for the full recipe.
Jamie has of course gone to to become one of the UK's leading chefs, click here to go to his website and find more amazing food.
Staying with the foodie theme, a mosaic of breakfast treats: buttery croissant, tartine with apricot preserves, pain au chocolat and a walnut & banana muffin.Which One do you think is the Odd One Out?

  1. None of them look like the odd one out to me ... they all look very tasty!

  2. The recipe looks so good for a summermeal in the garden with a glass of white wine......

  3. When I created the mosaic I meant for the muffin to be the odd one out because I baked it and it isn't shop bought or French. DH said the tartine was the OOO because it was bread and the others were pastries? Then he decided it could be the pain au chocolate because it has chocolate and the others don't or the muffin because it has fruit & the others don't! Too confusing!

  5. Good Morning Maggie,

I'm with Jo...none are the OOO, they all look delicious! But, if you want to throw any out, throw them MY way!

    Have a great week.

  6. Hi Maggie,
I LOVE pain au chocolate! I had to have one every morning when I was in France a couple of years ago....it was my obsession (I was obsessed with everything in the bakeries)!
Hope you are enjoying a beautiful spring in Normandy.

  9. Jamie Oliver has just shown up on my radar in the last month... had no idea who he was before that. Isn't he cool? I will have to click over and look at your Salmon recipe in a minute, because I LOVE salmon!!
I would say the odd one in this group is the muffin, because you haven't called it by a french name. Unless... is muffin a french word and I just don't know it? LOL!! I Just went and looked it up, Muffin in french is Muffin! Sigh, that blows my theory out of the water. I have no idea then.

  12. :-( To think I could have been eating these photo samples for you! LOL
I would have picked the muffin as the odd one out, but believe me I would be happy eating any one of these, Maggie.

  13. I think it's amazing that these treats survived to be photographed!
The kids gave me a Jamie Oliver cookbook for Christmas and I've really enjoyed some of his takes on old familiars.

  14. I watched the naked chef too :) I like Jamie Oliver and it disturbs me when I see him battling it out against the government mandated crap they serve the kids in school! He wants to give them healthy food choices instead of 'pizza' and 'chocolate milk' .

  15. Is it the muffin...not made of pastry?

I'm not sure which one it is but I really, really want dinner to cook quicker.

I haven't watched his show much but I think I need to.

I remember him as being Outstanding!

    Just like your post!

Thanks for the delicious little stop on our journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "O"!

    A+

  17. Well, I am always attracted to food posts! Why is that? And I absorb the calories just from looking!!

I think Normandy was be a wonderful place to welcome spring. How could I have missed Normandy in all my traipsing throughout France? Not sure I'll make it back with my job loss and retirement, sad to say.

  23. They do look so scrumptious! I've been catching part of his television shows in the US, and like what he has to say about obesity in our country!

(To answer your question on my post, I had no idea where the kids from the orphanage gone to or even alive today.) Thanks for visiting!

  26. I have really come to like Jamie Oliver, he has been doing a show about healthy cooking and helping a town turn around their way of cooking in schools and elsewhere. It has been really interesting.

  27. Jamie is adorable in he could almost be my son kind of way. Even if I don't fix his recipes, I love watching for the culture and entertainment. Olive Oyl was a great thought too. Your breakfast mosaic looks so yummy. Wish I was having tea at your house.
