Paris Love Locks Mosaic

The Passerelle de Solférino a footbridge over the River Seine close to the Musee D'Orsay, is festooned with Love Locks, symbols of eternal love.

It isn't the only Parisien bridge to be covered in padlocks which couples wishing to celebrate their relationship inscribe with their names and sometimes the date, before locking them onto the bridge and throwing the key into the river below.

In June 2011 The Independent newspaper reported the return of Love Locks to the bridges in the city of love.

  8. It's so romantic. But what happens when the bridges get too full?

  9. I had the same thought as Lorrie! What happens when the there is no more room for locks on the bridge....
So inventive of you to make a mosaic of the bridge.

  14. well I never knew about the love locks when we visited Paris for our 30th wedding anniversary. Perhaps if we had we would have added a lock!

  15. I'm sorry I've missed seeing this interesting bridge - what a great idea! I'll be there with my padlock ready on the next visit - perhaps we can meet there, that would be fun!

Off soon - the nerves are a bit overactive! Will be sorry to leave our beautiful Autumn weather here.

  20. Oh my goodness! Look at all those locks!! Is there one with your name on it?
Does the guy have to dive in the river and retrieve the key so they can unlock the padlock if things don't work out? ;-) Really, it would be interesting to know how many of those romantic couples are still together.
