Cherry Ripe!

“When I sound the fairy call, gather here in silent meeting,
Chin to knee on the orchard wall, cooled with dew and cherries eating.
Merry, merry, take a cherry, mine are sounder, mine are rounder,
Mine are sweeter for the eater, when the dews fall, and you'll be fairies all.”
Emily Dickinson. (American poet,1830-1886)
I think this is the first time, in almost 14 summers spent living here in Normandy, that our cherry crop has produced enough for us and the birds to enjoy
I'm joining in with two great meme's with this post; Mary's Mosaic Monday @ the little red house where we're celebrating red, white & blue.
I hope my cherries, nestling in their red, white & blue vintage Quimper bowl, qualify!
And, Weekly Words to Live by @ Tracey's blog, Notes From A Cottage Industry.
Hope all my US pals are enjoying the holiday weekend, have a great week tout le monde.

  2. We just ate all the cherries we bought at an orchard in Bemel, Netherlands. It was my first opportunity to see them on the branches and they were beautiful. How wonderful to have them in our own yard!

  3. Maggie, we have to buy ours at the market! They've been so delicious this year. We've eaten pounds and pounds of them. Unfortunately I think the season has ended for us. How wonderful to have your very own trees!
We've had lots of rain thanks to Alex, so temps are a bit cooler of late. Today has been dry, but more rain is in the forecast. Happy weekend to you! ~ Sarah

  10. Okay, Maggie, seriously, we have to have a real-time conversation. We are on the same wave-length in a way that is too close for comfort! (said with a smile). On Friday I was out looking at our cherry tree and thought that this year we might get some after the birds have had their fill....and I took photos, intending to make a cherry mosaic........maybe I'll wait a week. Too funny!

  11. Just wondering Maggie if you wait a little longer to pick them? We had an orchard in the Okanagan Valley in BC and we didn't pick them until they were much darker because cherries are the only fruit crop that doesn't ripen after they are picked. They ripen from the inside out. I was thinking of doing a cherry post next week...mind you I'll be using old pictures...Thanks for the memories!

  14. Good Morning Ms. Maggie,

That mosaic is so pretty! The cherries do look delicious. We have 3 varieties of apple trees, grapes, and blackberries, but no cherries. I am not sure if they grown them locally here.

Enjoy them! Have a great week!
