Seasonal Sunday with the Tablescaper

I'm joining in with a new (to me) meme The Tablescaper's: Seasonal Sunday as we leave summer behind and welcome cooler autumn days and nights.
I imagine that there will be plenty of posts this week about the Labor day weekend but here in Normandy, Saturday was just a normal day of la vie quotidienne (daily life).
Yesterday was warm and sunny with bright blue skies, so we decided to head towards the coast for an impromptu picnic.

We loaded up the car with folding chairs, a small table and a basket packed with pate de forestiere, cheese and tomato sandwiches, a flask of tea & the remains of the Pear Crumble cake that I made last weekend. (Yes, we did make it last all week!) A truly eclectic mix of French and English gourmet treats!
Not forgetting a big bottle of water for Mr Ben and a bag of biscuit bones.
A magazine or two and a couple of books to read and off we went.
La Rentrée (when French children return to school) was 1st September and so the roads were very peaceful as we motored down the country lanes.
Sand yachting (Le char à voile) is a very popular pastime in the region and I managed to snap these two as they sped along. We spent a very pleasant afternoon sitting, reading and watching the world go by before heading back inland for a spot of gardening.
How did you spend your weekend?

  1. Our weekend is still stretched out ahead of us, as it's Labour Day and a long weekend. I spent the day, today, cleaning, scrubbing, doing laundry etc etc, but took time too, to climb a small mountain (hill really) behind us, just to clear out the mental cobwebs. Tomorrow there's a wedding to attend (odd, on a Sunday!) and then Monday I hope to do nothing but read and nap.
Your picnic and afternoon sound so very civilized!

  2. Maggie, with cooler temps this morning (70s) I plan to be in the garden tomorrow morning and Monday morning. A neighborhood cookout on Sunday evening is the social event. LOL
Your picnic looks like the perfect way to spend a day relaxing. You make everything look special, Maggie!

  7. So happy to have you with us at Seasonal Sundays. Your picnic looks so inviting. I love your chairs - so much better than the plastic or metal kind. Clearly you're an animal lover as not only could dear Ben not be left out, but he had to have his picnic goods as well.

I had never heard of sand yachting. Interesting.

Looking forward to having you with us in the future.

  8. What a wonderful way to spend the day. Looks so relaxing.
Bruce and I had a pretty relaxing day. I did manage to take the talk for a walk and then picked up some small tree limbs and acorns that had fallen in the back yard. Some grocery shopping....out to dinner.....some TV. That summed up our Saturday.
Probably more of the same for today!!
