Mosaic Monday - Daylily collage

I spotted this beautiful, creamy white daylily in the garden of l'Authentique, a restaurant in our local market town when we had lunch there last week.
Unfortunately I got my shadow in there too, bottom right!
C'est la vie!

Kicking off the week by joining Mary for her Mosaic Monday gathering @the little redhouse with this simple collage and Shakespeares sonnet number 99.

To quote the bard:
The forward violet thus did I chide:
Sweet thief, whence didst thou steal thy sweet that smells,
If not from my love's breath? The purple pride
Which on thy soft cheek for complexion dwells
In my love's veins thou hast too grossly dy'd.
The lily I condemned for thy hand,
And buds of marjoram had stol'n thy hair;
The roses fearfully on thorns did stand,
One blushing shame, another white despair;
A third, nor red nor white, had stol'n of both,
And to his robbery had annexed thy breath;
But, for his theft, in pride of all his growth
A vengeful canker eat him up to death.
More flowers I noted, yet I none could see,
But sweet, or colour it had stol'n from thee.

  1. Beautiful lilies - I have red, yellow and orange in my garden but no white, yet. I have high hopes that one is pink, but it hasn't yet bloomed so it's still a mystery.

  2. This daylily collage is gorgeous. They are such a happy flower.

    Have a wonderful week! La

  3. Your day lilies are gorgeous. Nice collage! I tried planting some, and they grew, but did not bloom. I did something terribly wrong!!!

  4. What a beautiful colour. It reminds me of a wedding dress of an older and wiser woman. She has been married before and is now more settled than when she wore the bright shiny white at her first wedding. She is calmer now and may go unnoticed until someone walks by and notices how beautiful she really is.

  5. I've never seen that particular color of day lily. The flowers are beautiful, so creamy and elegant.

    Thanks, too, for the sonnet - the Bard certainly had a way with words.

  6. I love the lilies. I have some in my gardens, too. I did a Mosaic Monday about flowers, too. Come and visit!

  7. Thanks for sharing! Great lilies!
    Have a nice week,

  8. Beautiful day lilies, Maggie....Christine

  9. I have lots of day lilies in my garden and have dug one up to take with me when I move. It's called Root Beer a really dark maroon colour . It was Dick's favorite.
    A lovely sonnet to start the day.

  10. Beautiful daylilies. Your mosaic is just lovely. Great shots, have a wonderful week!

  11. Your mosaic is gorgeous and love the poem. White St Joseph lilies with their wonderful fragrance is my all time favourite bloom!

  12. Such lovely lilies you have, I really like white flowers. .

  13. OH that is a lovely collage Maggie. I love those white lilies.

  14. Sweet, cream lilies...simply lovely, and I love their fragrance. Nice mosaic.

  15. Great selection from Shakespeare to accompany your lily mosaic. Are these lilies highly scented? I know a lot of white lilies are and stargazers but then some don't have much. These are a nice height. What is the name of this variety?

  16. So lovely - and perfect with a dash of Shakespeare! You are a blogger after my own heart!

  17. I think it's lovely that they grow flowers in gardens at restaurants there. Here they might have a flower box filled with annual, but otherwise, no.

  18. My yellow and orange lilies are blooming now - I can't believe it's at the same time - you have been enjoying your garden flowers for so many months. they must bring you great joy! Thanks for visiting my blog again.

  19. Even my daylilies have bitten the dust now, no thanks I'm sure to the relentless sun and heat! I've none this color though - very cool looking!

    Happy week Maggie dear.
    Hugs - Mary

  20. Beautiful. The lily, the poem - even the personal touch of seeing your shadow!

  21. I always enjoy seeing your collages. The lilies are very pretty and such a great color!

  22. Those are lovely, Maggie! That color reminds me of my grandmother's graduation dress.

    (Do you have Photoshop? Easy to get the shadows out using it. I'm not a pro with it, but do use it often.)

  23. Beautiful, Maggie. I'm off to see an open garden this morning. ;-)
    More later in a note.......Sarah

Thanks for stopping by, your visit just made my day!
