Mosaic Monday - Daylily collage

I spotted this beautiful, creamy white daylily in the garden of l'Authentique, a restaurant in our local market town when we had lunch there last week.
Unfortunately I got my shadow in there too, bottom right!
C'est la vie!

Kicking off the week by joining Mary for her Mosaic Monday gathering @the little redhouse with this simple collage and Shakespeares sonnet number 99.

To quote the bard:
The forward violet thus did I chide:
Sweet thief, whence didst thou steal thy sweet that smells,
If not from my love's breath? The purple pride
Which on thy soft cheek for complexion dwells
In my love's veins thou hast too grossly dy'd.
The lily I condemned for thy hand,
And buds of marjoram had stol'n thy hair;
The roses fearfully on thorns did stand,
One blushing shame, another white despair;
A third, nor red nor white, had stol'n of both,
And to his robbery had annexed thy breath;
But, for his theft, in pride of all his growth
A vengeful canker eat him up to death.
More flowers I noted, yet I none could see,
But sweet, or colour it had stol'n from thee.

  1. Beautiful lilies - I have red, yellow and orange in my garden but no white, yet. I have high hopes that one is pink, but it hasn't yet bloomed so it's still a mystery.

  4. What a beautiful colour. It reminds me of a wedding dress of an older and wiser woman. She has been married before and is now more settled than when she wore the bright shiny white at her first wedding. She is calmer now and may go unnoticed until someone walks by and notices how beautiful she really is.

  5. I've never seen that particular color of day lily. The flowers are beautiful, so creamy and elegant.

    Thanks, too, for the sonnet - the Bard certainly had a way with words.

  9. I have lots of day lilies in my garden and have dug one up to take with me when I move. It's called Root Beer a really dark maroon colour . It was Dick's favorite.
    A lovely sonnet to start the day.

  15. Great selection from Shakespeare to accompany your lily mosaic. Are these lilies highly scented? I know a lot of white lilies are and stargazers but then some don't have much. These are a nice height. What is the name of this variety?

  17. I think it's lovely that they grow flowers in gardens at restaurants there. Here they might have a flower box filled with annual, but otherwise, no.

  22. Those are lovely, Maggie! That color reminds me of my grandmother's graduation dress.

    (Do you have Photoshop? Easy to get the shadows out using it. I'm not a pro with it, but do use it often.)
