The faded charm of pink hydrangeas.

I've been in the wars a little bit this week!
On Monday I was stung by a wasp on my lower left arm, as I'm mildly allergic to wasp stings it wasn't long before the swelling went from elbow to fingers.
As I'd had the same thing happen last year I had antihistamine tablets and cortisone cream in the cabinet so after a couple of days the swelling was starting to recede.
That was until this afternoon (Thursday) when I got stung again whilst in the garden getting some fresh air.
Same arm, just higher up!
Taking no chances I went to see our lovely Dr B-B who loaded me up with more tablets, cream, compresses, alcohol (to cool the arm, not to drink!) and bandages to hold the compresses in place!
I look like the walking wounded and have to stay this way for 10 days.
So, I need some fresh flowers to cheer me up, more than ever which is why I'm ..............................

Joining Liz @Rose Vignettes once more for Fresh Cut Friday.

Even though they are past their summer pink gorgeousness now
my hydrangeas are still bringing me pleasure.

I'll let them dry out here in the dining room and
enjoy their faded charm for many more months to come.

Joining Beverly too for Pink Saturday @How Sweet The Sound.
Please click on the links to join both of these lovely ladies for gorgeous flowers and delightful pinks, me, I'm staying indoors with a good book until all the wasps have gone.

  1. oooh! so sorry to hear you have been stung, and hope you are feeling better soon. A few years ago I had a coupleof summers when I reacted really badly to bites and even ended up in hospital- mercifully I appear to have grown out of it now.
Stay in, avoid the wasps, and bake some more courgette creations!

  2. Maggie, now I understand the comment about the arm in Gay's message this morning. ;-)
So sorry you're going through this. I know it's painful. I've had my share of wasp stings and they are no picnic.
Staying inside with a good book and pot of tea sounds like a fine idea. Hope it feels better soon.....Sarah

  3. I am so sorry to hear about your wounds. Wasps are everywhere now. WE ate lunch outside today and they were uninvited guests. Take care and enjoy your beautiful hydrangeas. This is my favorite color. In the 80's I redecorated my house in those hydrangeas colors with teals for accents. I loved it. xo Jenny

  4. Maggie, Your hydrangeas are so prety. I still have some from last year. I should pick some of what's left in my garden this year to enjoy as well. I'm sorry about you getting stung and reacting to it. Hope you are on the mend now.

  9. Oh Maggie, not a good start to the month, it is bad enough to be stung once but twice. Thank goodness you had some anti histamine in the house to administer at once.
Take care and enjoy your beautiful hydrangeas.

  10. Sorry about the wasp sting, I had a BAD reaction to one a couple of years ago and now have to carry an EPI pen in case of emergency
I didn't know you could keep Hydrangeas like that, I have lovely blue ones and have always thrown them out when they faded.

  12. So sorry to hear about the stings. How uncomfortable. But glad that you knew what to do right away.

Your hydrangeas are so pretty. I love the way they change color and become more mellow later in the season.

  13. Ugh!!! Wasp stings DO hurt so much! Do you need an epi-pen? I always have one close by because my daughter and I have terrible allergies.

Your hydrangeas are lovely, and I will link-up on Tuesday. We are going to batten down the hatches in South Alabama at our lake cabin (we are getting ready to leave in about an hour).

    (((hugs))),

  14. I love seeing your pretty flowers. You should never wait, but go to the doctor immediately if you are allergic to stings. My sister just went through that last week.

  15. Oh my goodness ! Twice in the same arm, hope it doesn't make you more sensitive. My little mother got stung and passed out, it was really scary.
LOVE your hydrangeas, I think they are beautiful from start to finish.

  19. Hi Maggie,

I'm sorry to hear you were stung twice in one week! Wasp stings can be quite dangerous. I love the glimpse of your pretty room in these pictures and LOVE the faded pink hydrangeas. These wonderful flowers are pretty throughout all their different phases. I certainly hope you'll be mended and feeling much better soon.

  20. Well, after two stings, I think you deserve a glass or two of the other kind of alcohol. ;-)
But in all seriousness, I'm glad you didn't take chances and went straight away to the doc. And I hope your arm is feeling better.
I love the little honeybees, but I am not a fan of the wasps. We have such big ones here. And hornets and yellowjackets too.

  22. Poor thing...once is bad enough but twice is too much. My blue hydrangeas look like your pink ones now. The fading color is like the season. The leaves are just starting to change color here.

  26. Oh Maggie, I'm so sorry! Years ago my husband accidentally annoyed a bunch of bees and was stung several times. He nearly died. Terrible way to find out you are allergic.
Feel better soon...the lovely hydrangeas should help a bit! :)

  28. Poor you, I hope so much your stings are no longer bothering you, they can be so painful......and very dangerous to those allergic to them.

Oh I'm jealous - know that I shouldn't be - that you will be in Devon and Cornwall. Have a wonderful time and be sure to have a fresh crab sandwich outdoors at Jenny's on Brixham harbor - tell her I sent you!!

If Brixham has the French market at the weekend, you may get to meet Eric from Normandy - the goat farmer with the fabulous cheese and breads. Don't forget, Bob and I hope to come visit both you and Eric in Normandy in the next year or so! You're on my 'travel wish list' dear.

Bon voyage - hope the sun shines for your travels.
Have fun - also eat a cream tea and a pasty for me! Gosh this comment seems to be all about food, ha! ha!

    Love, Mary
