Five on Friday - five mosaics

Last Friday morning France was waking up to a day of mourning as the nation struggled to comprehend the devastation caused to the people of Nice as they watched the Bastille Day Fireworks at the culmination of France's National Day.
For Amy's Five On Friday gathering @ Love Made My Home this week I have created 5 mosaics to share.
In September 2014 my sister Kathryn and I enjoyed several days discovering Nice and the surrounding area with other members of the Quimper Collectors Club.
Our hotel the B4 Plaza on avenue Verdun has far reaching views across the Promenade des Anglais to the sea.
The view from the roof terrace on the evening of Bastille Day must have been horrific.
I refuse to let one madman's act of terror spoil my memories of our time spent in Nice, our first trip together as adult siblings.

Whilst in the Dordogne recently the Senior Partner and I visited Le Temple-sur-Lot, where in 1875 Monsieur Latour-Marliac established a water lily nursery.
(All water lily photographs courtesy of the SP.)

From the guide book -"He developed a sophisticated method  of creating colourful hardy water lily hybrids".

In 1889 he took his creations to the World's Fair in Paris where they caused a sensation.

Impressionist painter Claude Monet came across them in the gardens of the Trocadero and the rest (as they say) is history.................................................

On Monday 1st August I shall begin hosting Mosaic Monday here @ Normandy Life.
A weekly meme for bloggers who enjoy creating photo mosaics and collages Mosaic Monday has been very popular for many years and I'm so happy to be carrying the MM baton passed on from Judith @ Lavender Cottage and her predecessor, Mary @ The Little Red House
On my sidebar you'll find a Mosaic Monday info page and a MM button, I'd love it if you'd come and join in with us.

  1. I've never been any good at making mosaics, so I doubt if I'll be joining you - sorry - but I wish you all the best with it. They really are a good way to display groups of things. Your water lily pictures are a prime example. How pretty they are.

It's so many war and aggression in our world, I often ask me how that ends - (prayers)
Good luck for your Mosaic-Monday (but I don't know, how that to do and for my bad eyes isn't good to look to much at the screen)
    Enjoy your weekend

  8. I'm always amazed at the talent in this world. Reading Five on Friday, I see a wide variety of talents - gardening, cooking, photography, etc. Now there will be a gathering of mosaics. How I admire those of you who will contribute. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

  9. Good luck with the Mosaics I am afraid I am clueless on how to do them. Technology and I are not good together. Such sad events of Nice but you should certainly not let events cloud your wonderful memories.

  10. I'm not good with mosaics, wish I were. Have never been to Nice, Avignon is about as far south in France as we've been. Love the water lilies.

  12. Such beautiful pictures. They are so colourful and pretty. Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

We can't let terrorists get us down - they want us to be scared, that is the point of it. People always ask if I'm afraid to fly. No. I won't be afraid. If I don't fly, I don't get to see my Mum. I know which is more important!

    Enjoy your weekend

  18. The only way we civilians can fight back against terrorism is by refusing to be terrorized. Going about our daily lives, looking at beauty, remembering our shared history of cooperation and friendship and remaining open to the world as you certainly are!
I look forward to Mosaic Monday!

  26. A lovely soothing post, your pictures and mosaics are beautiful, I especially like the lilies. Great memories for you of Nice, hold on to them and don't let evil win, there has been some lovely stories in the aftermath, the human chain removing the flowers made me cry, such solidarity! Good luck with MM, have a good weekend xx
