For Mosaic Monday today I'm sharing some images of the beautiful countryside that surrounds our home as it begins to transition from winter to spring.
I found this lovely little ode to snowdrops, pretty little harbingers of spring already beginning to appear this month in gardens and lanes.
The Snowdrop, winter's timid child,
Awakes to life, bedew'd with tears.
- Mary Robinson
Here's what January has looked like hereabouts.
depleted log pile
moss growing on a cherry tree
|
clematite armandii "Apple Blossom" by the front door
daffodils in the garden
snowdrops; catkins, primroses, ajonc, wild orchid and late mushrooms in the lane
stormy skies above
|
silver birch trees swaying in the wind
|
late afternoon as rain clouds start to move over the village once again |
Hazel or birch catkins, not sure which.
Another early sign of spring?

What glorious pre-spring photos - I love the flowers. We have a few things sprouting a little - but nothing like you are showing. I do so look forward to spring.
ReplyDeleteJanuary is a beautiful month in Normandy. Love that first photo with the stone house. How eagerly we all anticipate spring. It's exciting to see all the harbingers in your garden.
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful signs of spring, already showing so early in the year where you live! We have much more winter to deal with here.
Signs of Spring----Oh yes. I have similar catkins on the Filber/Hazelnut trees

Daffodils already! Be still my heart. Mid-winter looks wonderful in Normandy...you have seasons, but not too severe apparently. I could live with that.
ReplyDeleteLuv the snowdrop flowers and the shadows on the lawn. An inspiration of newness
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday
much love...
How wonderful to see early signs of spring. We have just had a January thaw so most of snow is gone, but I’m sure more winter weather will be on its way.
ReplyDeleteHow very lovely!! I especially like the photo of the daffodils!! Have a grand week!
ReplyDeleteLovely images of awakening Spring, Maggie. Just as we are becoming aware of the shortening days and the first timid signs of Autumn, Downunder!
ReplyDeleteFragrant Spring flowers are one of the joys of the year, Maggie! Lovely entry.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your photos from around your garden. The start of spring is the most magical time. Enjoy.
ReplyDeletePS: Thank you for hosting, Maggie.
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie, I can see why you love where you live! Every image you share of the area -- no matter the season -- is lovely. Lucky you. Happy Monday and thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at the trees coming to life and shadows on the grass! And of course flowers are always a welcome sign of Spring. We have....wait for it....POLLEN already! heehee! But also some beautiful new red leaves on the maples! Enjoy your day! Happy MM! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteMaggie, I love the shadow of the tree on the green the best. We are not close to spring yet. Thanks for sharing. Sylvia D.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the beginnings of spring peeking through the garden. Thank you always for your 70th Mosaic Monday. Hugs.

Beautiful images! We aren't seeing signs of spring yet.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your start of spring since yesterday we had six inches of snow (after a thaw, but still... I know. It's only January. The flowers are just lovely and so is your pretty home!
ReplyDeleteMaggie - as you know, I am enjoying winter and in no rush for it to end. Having said that, I did feel a twinge of jealousy with the greening of your lawn, and the sight of daffodils. Sigh ... Your mosaics this week are bewitching, especially the ones of the trees. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful to see signs of springs. I wish it was happening here.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. Those snowdrops are delightful!
Dearest Maggie; What a GREAT post introducing us your surroundings♡♡♡ I LOVE the snowdrops and the poem. I needed to check the word 'bedewed' and learned how it is used:-) I posted narcissus but it's snowing a little(^^;)
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for hosting and comments♪
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend, xoxo Miyako*
